The petrochemical industry is a major part of Singapore’s economic structure. So much so that a whole southern island (Pulau Bukom aka Bukom Island) has been transformed into a massive cluster of refineries, lighting up the whole island and probably making it one of the most flammable islands around Singapore!

Great !!! The photo really let feel what they do there. A wonderful photo indeed.
This is quite amazing. On the portal photo I though it was indeed some aflame. Scary in a way, too. Don’t think I’d like to work there.
photo itself is quite stunning!
but i wouldn’t want to inhale there!
Does the wind often bring some smokes on the town? I feel quite uncomfortable seeing your shot…
Wow, what a beautiful photo. It’s amazing how something so dangerous can look so beautiful.
You have an award winning petro chemical company photo. It looks just great. The stuff they make is a blessing and a curse. Chemicals to fight disease is a blessing. Chemicals to kill insects without discrinination is a curse on all of us not to even mention the infected water leaching into the underground water supplies. So it is big and it is beautiful but it is also a big devil almost out of control — the chemical industry.
Indeed… the island is a boon and a bane to us Singaporeans.
But living here for so long, we almost ignore the existence of it, perhaps even those working there is a means of good livelihood, period.
Perhaps also, we Singaporeans are just too busy with the things in our hectic lives to wonder about the fumes, etc… we do take a lot for granted, don’t we?
When I read your comments, I see new perspectives and what I, myself have taken for granted also!
Cheers!
i hope the bad things never happen. it’s not too far from where I am..
would be disastrous….
the lights are so nice.
what a brilliant night shot! must be a fascinating island.
